Since 1989
Millati Islami was founded in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1989. It's founder was Zaid Imani and wife Sybil. The founders sought a way to incorporate the Islamic way of life with the twelve-step approach to the treatment of drug addiction, a principle that guides the organization.
Millati Islami is based on the Third-Step Method from AA and NA. Support groups are held every Monday at 6 PM at Masjidus Sabur in the Bronx and Tuesdays at 6 PM at the Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood (MIB) in Harlem. A new chapter will reopen at the Yusuf Shaw Islamic Center in Mt. Vernon, NY.
